3 years ago already and I am still thinking and feeling for Woyzeck. A story that has been with me ever since my first steps on the “Bretter, die die Welt bedeuten.” (Friedrich Schiller translates to: “the logs that are the world”).

In one of my first auditions I used Woyzeck’s first monologue. A story that is 150 years old, never finished and one of the masterpieces of modern drama. So simple and so powerful. The story of a family, the story of society, a story of life.

Sometimes we fail to see what is there. What we have. What we need. What we want. Sometimes we are blind to ourselves. We deny what we already know We lock ourselves up in our own cage and throw away the key. We see the world for what we want it to be and not for what it is.

“Ja Andres; den Streif da über das Gras hin, da rollt abends der Kopf, es hob ihn einmal einer auf, er meint es wär’ ein Igel.” Woyzeck, by Georg Buechner
